A Colorful Event!
This year Midwest City is hosting a new, exciting event to be held in Charles J. Johnson Central Park located in Town Center Plaza on Saturday, April 9. The Covered in Color Sidewalk Chalk Competition and Art Festival will be the first of its kind for Midwest City, and is set to feature an impressive variety of vendors, cuisine and entertainment.
The festival will open at 9:30 a.m. and run until 4 p.m. Live entertainment will include Daybreak, an elite jazz choir ensemble, Ravens Three band and internationally renowned inspirational speaker Richard Hight, who creates a work of art during his keynote to creatively communication positive and life-changing messages of inspiration. Three separate live performances of chainsaw art sculpting will take place throughout the day. These works will be available for purchase in a silent auction. Professional caricature artist Robert Lange will also be on site.
If you have a competitive side and/or artistic ability, register to compete in the sidewalk chalk art competition! Registration for the competition will end promptly at 10:30 a.m., but early registration is available online. The sidewalk chalk art competitors will create their work from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Artwork will be judged by a panel and prizes will be awarded the same day. Winners will be announced between 2:40-3 p.m.
Food and beverage will be served all day by a variety of delicious food trucks. Art vendors and local organizations will be showcasing wares and works for purchase and viewing. Kids will enjoy making colorful candy art and creating their own art work in the non-competitive coloring zones. Bags of five, variety color jumbo chalk pieces will be available for $2.
