Experience the Eclipse in Midwest City!

Have you heard? The 2017 Great Solar Eclipse is coming to a city near you! This will be the first total solar eclipse visible in the continental United States in 38 years. If your schedule places you in Midwest City Aug. 21, you’re in luck! There’s a variety of exceptional locations in the area to view this astronomical occurrence, and we’ve designed a quick list to maximize the experience.
The first thing you’ll need to do before you can experience the solar eclipse is acquire a pair of special eclipse-viewing glasses. You can order your own online or pick up a pair at the Midwest City Metropolitan Library while supplies last! You should NEVER look at the sun directly without appropriate eye-wear.
Next, you’ll need to decide where you’re going to watch the eclipse! For a next-level viewing experience, we recommend Charles J. Johnson Central Park in Town Center Plaza, Lake Stanley Draper or Joe B. Barnes Regional Park. There’s no shortage of great parks to choose from in Midwest City, so be sure to check out a list of where to play here.
Finally, you need to make sure you have plenty of provisions for this lunchtime show! The eclipse will begin at 11:37 a.m. and end at 2:34 p.m., with the maximum obscuration of the sun at 1:05 p.m. Whether you plan to watch all or part of the eclipse, you will want a snack or to-go lunch to enjoy during the show. Check out a list of area eateries here.
